The Genesis History.
Genesis Preparatory School of Gainesville, Inc. opened its doors on August 19, 2000 with 19 kindergarten students, one teacher, and one paraprofessional.
We are now a K-3 public charter school with a maximum of 72 students. We utilize the educational technique referred to as “looping.” Looping is the practice of a teacher moving with his/her students to the next grade level, rather than to another teacher at the end of the school year. Some loops are two consecutive years with the same group of students, while others may be three or more years with the same group. The teachers at Genesis began moving with their students for three consecutive years, but now we just loop from kindergarten to first grade.
Looping provides the following advantages:
The students will change from one grade level to the next with minimum anxiety.
It will provide the teacher and students additional time to foster the relationships which much of children’s learning depends.
It will essentially add more productive teaching/learning time during the beginning of the second year because the typical transitional time which takes place between teacher and student at the beginning of the school year will be significantly reduced.
It will promote stronger bonds and support between the parents and teachers.
